About the Center
The Educational and Scientific Center for Central-Eastern European Studies (ESCCEES) was established by Rector’s Order No. 114-k of August 31, 2010, on the initiative of the staff of the Department of International Relations, Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations. The Center is a structural educational and research unit of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University.
In its activities, the Center is guided by the Law of Ukraine “On Higher Education,” the Law of Ukraine “On Scientific and Scientific-Technical Activity,” regulatory acts of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the University Statute, orders and directives of the Rector, and the Regulations on the Center.

Purpose
The purpose of the Center’s activity is to conduct scientific research and development, organize scientific conferences, coordinate international projects on issues of Central-Eastern Europe, European integration and Ukraine’s foreign policy, as well as coordinate international projects related to “Double Degree” master’s programs.
Main Areas of Activity
- Conducting scientific research and publishing materials in line with the Center’s specific activities
- Organizing and participating in international, national and regional conferences on issues relevant to the Center’s activities
- Coordinating university-wide international projects in the field of joint master’s programs with foreign higher education institutions
- Cooperating with foreign and domestic institutions in areas of shared scientific and educational interest
- Implementing international projects relevant to the Center’s activities
- Adapting educational and research activities to the requirements of the European scientific and educational space
- Developing and maintaining the Center’s website
Functions of the Center
- Organizational activity – organizing national and international conferences, symposiums, scientific-practical seminars and round tables on current issues of history, political science, sociology and law of Central-Eastern European countries, with particular attention to international relations and security challenges in the region
- Publishing activity – preparing thematic collections of scientific papers, student scientific journals and other printed materials for publication, preparing analytical reports, translating and academically processing relevant sources and works of leading foreign researchers of the region
- Research activity – conducting fundamental and applied research in the following areas: geopolitical transformations and new security architectures in CEE; political systems and transformation processes in the region’s countries; historical and legal aspects of state-building and European integration processes; regional cooperation (Lublin Triangle, Visegrád Four, Three Seas Initiative); socio-cultural and migration processes in Central-Eastern Europe
- Didactic and educational activity – developing educational and methodological materials on CEE issues for students of “International Relations,” “Political Science,” “History” and other specialties; participating in the development of special master’s programs and certificate courses in regional studies; engaging students in research work, organizing summer schools, debate clubs and open lectures with leading Ukrainian and foreign politicians and experts
- Coordinating research quality – helping to improve the quality of coursework, master’s and dissertation theses related to CEE issues by providing advisory and informational support to students
- Partnership and cooperation – facilitating agreements on scientific cooperation with relevant institutes, think tanks and universities of partner countries (including Poland, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, etc.)
- Academic mobility – coordinating internship and study programs for faculty, postgraduate students and students at leading CEE research centers in accordance with the university’s plans
- Project activity – initiating and implementing international grant projects (Erasmus+, Horizon Europe, etc.) that align with the strategic goals of developing Central-Eastern European research
Leadership
The Center is directly managed by a director. The Director of the Center is Orest Ihorovych Boichuk, Candidate of Political Sciences. The director is appointed and dismissed by order of the Rector in agreement with the Vice-Rector for Academic and Scientific Affairs and reports to the university’s Vice-Rector for Academic and Scientific Affairs.
